Cooling water treatment: know-how and experience

Scale, corrosion, deposits and microorganisms (biofilms) are just some of the factors that can severely affect cooling water systems. The right treatment approach prevents excessive wear, system downtime and hygiene issues.

Dr. Hartmann Chemietechnik supports you in all aspects of cooling water treatment. Our team develops a well-considered, individual water treatment concept — combining chemical treatment, plant engineering and remote monitoring technology. We create a solid foundation for economical, environmentally responsible and safe operation, tailored precisely to your requirements.

We take into account all current legislation and guidelines, including:

  • VDI guidelines 2047, 3803
  • 42nd BImSchV
  • VDMA 24649
  • Annex 31 of the Wastewater Ordinance

Based on manufacturer specifications, our team develops a specific treatment concept for you — enabling optimum operational performance. This structured approach delivers longer plant service life, higher operational reliability and significant savings in energy and water consumption. Through optimised use of treatment products, your evaporative cooling system operates sustainably and in an environmentally sound manner.

Dr. Hartmann Chemietechnik offers for evaporative cooling systems:

Corrosion Protection and Hardness Stabilization

minimize corrosion processes, stabilize hardness-forming agents, and prevent disruptive deposits—ensuring high operational reliability and a long service life for the equipment.

Biocides

protect water-carrying systems from microbial growth and help ensure hygienic and safe system operation.

Dispersants

keep dirt, corrosion, and hardness particles in suspension and prevent them from settling in water-carrying systems. In this way, they support efficient and trouble-free plant operation.

Cleaning and disinfection of cooling water systems / Maintenance and repair of water treatment plants

Remote monitoring via W|C|S® Water Management System

Optimisation potential

  • Increase of cycles of concentration
  • Improvement of efficiency
  • Prevention of malfunctions
  • Optimisation of environmental compatibility
  • Hygienic operation
  • Reduction of fresh water and wastewater consumption
  • Reduction of chemical dosing
  • Reduction of downtime and production losses
  • Value preservation
  • Process reliability

Information on VDI 2047

Prevention of damage in evaporative cooling systems

VDI 2047 Part 2 provides clear requirements for the hygienic operation of evaporative cooling systems — covering planning, construction, operation, maintenance and microbiological monitoring. Its primary objective is the prevention of Legionella growth and other hygiene risks.

The guideline applies to operators, planners and maintenance companies and forms — together with the 42nd BImSchV — the legal and technical basis for the safe operation of evaporative cooling systems in Germany.

Our treatment programmes improve the efficiency of your cooling system, reduce your operating costs and ensure hygienic operation.
